Jayatu Sen Chaudhury  

Dr. Jayatu Sen Chaudhury is a Professor of Finance with a strong foundation in economics and corporate finance, and over 25 years of global industry experience at the intersection of finance, data science, and decision analytics. He holds a PhD in Financial Economics from IGIDR, Mumbai, and a Master’s degree in Quantitative Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and is a National UGC Scholar.

Prior to transitioning into academia, he spent more than two decades in senior leadership roles across global financial institutions, most notably at American Express. There, he led large analytics teams and worked extensively on real-world business problems using machine learning and artificial intelligence across risk, fraud, and marketing domains. His work spanned multiple geographies and delivered sustained, measurable business impact. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the Risk and Information Management Fellow and inducted into the American Express Hall of Fame for lifetime contribution.

He is the holder of three patents in predictive modelling and fraud detection, reflecting deep hands-on expertise in applied data science. In addition to teaching, he is an active writer, contributing regularly to leading newspapers and business dailies on finance, markets, and analytics. His academic work focuses on bridging rigorous economic thinking with the practical and responsible application of advanced analytics. His teaching interests include FinTech, Financial Risk and Marketing Analytics, agentic AI applications in finance, and storytelling with data using modern data visualization tools.
