Arindam Banik has been with IMI since February 01, 1994.
 
From 1981 until February, 1986 he was with the American Express Bank, Dhaka in the foreign exchange department. He is a member of the American Economic Association, Euro-Asia Management Studies Association, Global Awareness Society International, USA. Taught International Finance, Development Economics, Development Planning and Project Appraisal and Macroeconomics at the Department of Economics, University of West Indies, Barbados during the period 2001-2005(June) as a visiting Faculty. He holds the Associated Cement Companies Chair Professor in International Finance and Business at IMI. The Institute established a research unit entitled, “Prospect of Indian Cement Companies’ Business in the Neighbouring Countries” with a generous ACC endowment under his leadership.

Author of more than 100 scientific articles on international economics, macroeconomics and economic development. His articles have appeared in Journal of International Development, International Journal of Social Economics, Management Decision, Economic and Political Weekly, Indian Economic Review ,Indian Journal of Agricultural Economics, Bangladesh Development Studies, Savings and Development and other professional journals. His opinion pieces have been published in leading newspapers including The Barbados Advocate, Business Authority, The Daily Star, Economic Times, Hindu Business Line, Anandabazar Patrika and Desh. He is the International Advisory Board member of Asian Business and Management and the member, editorial Board of e-Social Sciences. His latest book is "Foreign Capital Inflows to China, India and the Caribbean-Trends, Assessments and Determinants" (co-authored with Pradip K Bhaumik, Palgrave-Macmillan, London, 2006).

Has been a consultant to a number of Indian companies, Government of India and multilateral institutions, including Associated Cement Companies, Ministry of Rural Development, World Bank, ILO-SAAT, IDRC, CIDA, and UNIDO. He has worked as consultant in St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Bangladesh and Nepal. His current research includes Global Financial Imbalances, International Finance, Poverty Reduction Strategies, Technology Transfer and Skill Development in developing economies.
