The IMI advantage: In light of the changes in course structure and delivery norms by the AICTE, IMI is proud to announce significant changes in the part time programme.

Currently the programme ( 38 courses) is spread over three years and nine trimesters, with classes being held 5-6 days in a week .

The NEW programme structure (30 courses) would be spread over three years and nine trimesters, but has been designed more in accordance with the hectic schedule of a working professional. The proposed change would make it a weekend *(one Sunday + one weekday) programme, thus giving the professional an opportunity for acquiring academic credential in the  more conducive and least stressful manner.

The above changes will be applicable from 2009 batch onwards. The revised course structure will be be available in due course. For other information you can go through details given below.

THE PROGRAMME
Keeping in view the commitment of IMI to promote post-experience management education in the country, the three-year part-time Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) was started by the Institute in July 1986. This programme is recognized by Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India, and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The programme is designed to impart knowledge and skills in the basic and functional areas of management. It is meant for young individuals who are working as middle / junior level executives / officers in public or private sector organizations, but have not had an opportunity to acquire formal management education. Being a part-time (evening) programme, it is open to those working in and around Delhi.

OBJECTIVES

  • to impart theoretical knowledge in all the basic and functional areas of management
  • to develop analytical, problem solving and decision making capabilities among the participants by exposing them to the use of various management tools and techniques
  • to stimulate understanding of the real business world through emphasis on cases that simulate real-life situations
  • to inculcate values and attitudes which contribute for social awareness and responsibility.

The curriculum is designed to prepare managers for successful careers in a wide variety of business and governmental organizations. The three-year evening programme is divided into nine terms. During the first half of the programme, the participants are required to take a number of compulsory courses in the following areas:

i) basic areas (economics, organizational behaviour)
ii) techniques (statistics, research methods, IT applications)
iii) functional areas (marketing, finance, personnel and operations); and
iv) integrative areas (business policy, international management).

In the second half of the programme, participants pursue their special interests in greater depth by taking a number of courses from the list of electives. In the second year the participants are required to take a course of independent study equivalent to 2 credits that will require them to write a case/case-study in any functional area of management on the company in which they are working. The case has to be written under the supervision of a faculty guide from the institute. This requirement has to be completed by the end of the second year of the programme. Those participants, who do not get permission from the respective organization for working on their case/case-study can opt for two extra elective courses in lieu of the case/casestudy requirement. During the summer vacation, between the second and the third year, participants are required to undertake the field project work.
